Sumi-e Reflections: Ink on Paper is a celebration of Australian and Japanese cultures, united through the timeless art of sumi-e.
Rooted in classical Japanese ink painting, this exhibition showcases four Sydney based artists whose brushwork channels the quiet power and meditative beauty of the form, blending the contemplative simplicity of sumi-e with Australian perspectives on landscape, light, and nature.
With reverence, spontaneity and playful humour their work becomes part of an ongoing dialogue across cultures and centuries between Japan and Australia, honouring the past while opening new paths of contemporary reinterpretation.
Whether you are new to sumi-e or a seasoned admirer, this exhibition offers something for everyone.
Through live demonstrations and teaching sessions, visitors are invited to engage directly with this timeless practice... a chance to slow down, explore and enjoy!
